If you're looking for the best website hosting for musicians, bands, and music recording studios, here's my own personal experience with website hosting companies.

I've run dozens of websites since 1998.  Many have made hundreds of thousands of dollars, and one made several million!  All of these websites had one thing in common.  They ALL "needed" GREAT website hosting!

In this article, I will help you find the very best music hosting company for your rock band, musician website or online recording studio.

BLUEHOST
In 2009, I was desperate for a reliable server.  I was looking for three main things - in this order.

1. UPTIME - If your site or email is down, you can't make money!  Plus, you'll get knocked out of the search engines if your site is down for several days.

2. TECH SUPPORT - If you don't have any tech support, they can't fix your site if it goes down.

3. EASY BACKUP - I currently have several websites.  All I need if for the server to crash and I lose 2,000 hours of work!  I MUST be able to easily backup all of my websites, right after I update them.  This is even more important if you run a directory or host sites for other people.  Imagine telling 50 customers their websites are gone forever.  This can't happen...  You NEED good backup!

4. SPEED - But this isn't a major concern for most companies unless you're paying $6 a month or less.

In 2009, I gave BLUEHOST Hosting a try.  I started out with a $10 a month single site but quickly switched to VPS-2000s hosting for only $49.99 a month.  I was opening multiple websites and the VPS servers are shared by fewer people.  Which means they're faster.

This company surpassed ALL of my needs!  I was shocked what I got for the price!!  This place was truly a blessing for me, and for anyone who doesn't want to spend big bucks but still wants great service!

SERVER SPEEDA-
I don't have a dedicated server, so it can't be as fast as one.  But it's as fast as I'll ever need!  Note - I'm sure if you get a dedicated server, it will grade out  an A+.

SERVER & EMAIL RELIABILITYA
Since 2009, my site went down only ONCE.  They had a major breakdown and my site was down for a day.  My email has NEVER gone down.

Also, in Cpanel I can push one button in the Backup Wizard and ALL of my sites are backed up!  Then I just download the .zip to my computer.

TECH SUPPORTA
When it came to server and software related issues, Bluehost tech support and Rackspace were equal.

The difference is when I had a problem with "my" installed software like Wordpress or Joomla.  Rackspace told me that was my problem, fix it yourself.

InMotion helped me to get it running!  Note- I'm sure they're not going to spend 2 hours and help you setup your entire Wordpress for free, but if there's a problem, they will look to see if  a conflict with their software is causing it, and they will point you in the right direction to fix your problem.

PRICEA+
For what you get, it's the best price on the net!

WHY DID I LEAVE?
I'm still there.  I probably will never leave!

If you're looking for a place to host your website(s), I've been with Blue hosting (http://BestMusicHosting.com) since 2009 and I must say I totally vouch for this company as one of the very best!

They “actually offer real” customer support. Your sites are backed-up at no extra charge. Downtime is non-existent. They work with Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, etc. And for what you get, the prices are THE LOWEST ON THE NET!

Below is my experience with three other online hosting companies -

AITCOM.NET

I started out on the net using this company in 1998.  A dedicated server account hosting multiple domains.  By far the worst company I ever dealt with in any business.  My website and email would be COMPLETELY down for days and no one would do ANYTHING!

Support ignored me and everyone else.  In 1998, they were basically the only game in town and they were signing up new customers and taking the money faster than they could hire support and fix problems.

They made MILLIONS and it was easier (more profitable) to just keep signing up new people and offer little to no support (kind of like Go Daddy is doing now).

Here's what others think -

RACKSPACE

I started using Rackspace hosting in 2000.

This company was EXCELLENT but EXPENSIVE!!!  I was making HUGE money, so their $1,200 a month price tag was worth it to me for their excellent customer service and solid uptime.

SERVER SPEED - A+
Very fast.  It was a dedicated server and only my several websites were on it.

SERVER & EMAIL RELIABILITY - A+
My site was down maybe a few hours in 8 years.  That's the best you'll ever get!

TECH SUPPORT - B+
If there was a problem with your server or their software, they were on it 24/7!  Why then a B+?  Because if I had a problem with "my" software, like Joomla or Wordpress (for example because it wasn't out yet), they said they didn't support it, we can't help you.

PRICE - F
The most expensive web hosting company on the internet.

WHY DID I LEAVE?
$$$$$.  It eventually became too much!  Why did I even pick this company to begin with?  Not only were they good, but they were also basically the "only game in town" when it came to dedicated servers and top tech support.  There were no other affordable choices back in 2000.

GO DADDY

Once the 2008 depression hit, I needed CHEAP hosting.  Hello GO Daddy!  I went from a $1,200 a month dedicated server to a $5 a month shared website (shared with 1,000 other websites) with no backup.  Now, THAT'S A PRICE DROP!

SERVER SPEED - C-
Usually, the site came up fast, but during busy times is was very slow.

SERVER & EMAIL RELIABILITY - F
Every other month either my entire website or my email server went down for 3-4 days.  Totally unacceptable!  There are too many other options out there.

TECH SUPPORT - F
When the site worked, it worked well.  But when it didn't, they wouldn't fix it or even look into the problem.  The form letter answers were ALWAYS, "It's your software, not us."  But I knew it wasn't on my end.  I didn't make ANY changes to my website.

The business model there is to offer NO tech support (it's expensive), and as long as you decide to stay there and deal with the problems, they get your $5 a month.

If you have a problem, they told me they have a million customers and I need to find another company, they're not fixing it.

It's a pyramid scheme.  As long as they can keep getting new shmucks to signup faster than people are leaving, they keep making money!

PRICE - A+
CHEAP!  But the saying, "You get what you pay for," applies here.  I wouldn't get hosting from Go Daddy if it was FREE!!!  HONESTLY!  I would lose WAAAAAY too much money when my site goes down every other month.

WHY DID I LEAVE?
Do I REALLY have to answer this question?

Fixing A Bad Mix With Mastering

A lot of mastering engineers are afraid to make drastic changes to a mix they are working on.  That, or they're stuck in the familiarity of always making only small changes.

In this video I show how you can turn a weak mix (definitely wouldn't call it bad) into a great sounding master, simply by pushing your levels a little more than you might be used to.

This article discusses what is the chorus effect in music and how to use it?  The chorus effect makes a single audio track sound like a group. It achieves this by taking a single instrument or vocal track, multiplying it, and then slightly detunes each newly created track. The result is a fuller lush sounding audio track.

6 best room size for audio mastering

So, what is the best room size for audio mastering in your DAW home recording studio?  Technically, you can properly mix or master in any room size.  But, I believe a smaller room is better than a very large one for someone who's just starting out. And when I say smaller I mean closer to 12'x15' than to 20'x30'.  I've mixed and mastered songs for a number of years in a 20'x30' room.  It took me a few days to get used to it, but after that I could do it.
