In mixing terms, a channel is an individual audio track. A collection of these audio tracks make-up an entire song. For example: Channel #1 might be a kick drum, channel #2 a snare drum, channel #3 a hi-hat, and so on. When mixing a song, it's a lot easier to mix 10 channels than it is to mix 40 channels.
