The Best Main DAW Software For Your Home Recording Studio | Print |  E-mail

This article is not a review of all the DAW (digital audio workstation) programs on the market, so the choices are limited to what I feel are the two very best main DAW programs available.

Pro tools is the industry standard in DAW software.  I'd have to say at least 65% of all recording studios, and EVERY major recording studio has Pro tools.  The advantage of using Pro tools is you can easily put your entire Pro tools session on a DVD and take it to another studio for mixing.

Cubase SX 5 is more of a music creation program along with harddisk recording capabilities.  If you are going to make any music using a midi keyboard, I definitely suggest you get Cubase SX 5.

BOTH programs you can harddisk record, mix music, add in effects and EQ (plugins included), midi sequence songs, they basically both can do it all.  The differences are Pro tools is more of the industry standard, and Cubase SX 5 has more extensive tools for midi music creation.

If all you're going to do is record and mix, buy Pro tools.  If you're going to make music with a midi keyboard and samples, buy Cubase SX 5.
