| The Best Computer For Your DAW Home Recording Studio | | Print | |
The first, and main component of the DAW (digital audio workstation) home recording studio is a computer. You have two format choices, Mac or PC. If you choose a Mac, only Apple makes them so the choice is easy. If you choose a PC, there are dozens of different companies. I recommend going with a PC because most people you meet will be using a PC. If you wanted to share anything (sounds, sequences, etc.) with someone, there's a better chance you'll be able too. If you decide on a PC, and want to get the best bang for your buck, I recommend going with a custom built PC from Ebay. There are several custom PC builders on the site, and the prices are very good. In early 2011, I picked up a new AMD 2.8ghz Quad core for only $490. I added a super quiet fan for $50 and a couple external 3.0 usb hard drives for $100 each. Custom PCs are great because you can modify them at a later time with extra fans, hard drives, cards, etc., as needed. Commercial computers don't allow the same flexibility if you need to add hardware, plus they cost more! Related Articles
