In Music Mixing, What Is A Channel? | Print |  E-mail
(10 votes, average 4.00 out of 5)

In mixing terms, a channel is an individual audio track.  A collection of these audio tracks make-up an entire song.  For example: Channel #1 might be a kick drum, channel #2 a snare drum, channel #3 a hi-hat, and so on.

When mixing a song, it's a lot easier to mix 10 channels than it is to mix 40 channels.  This is why you'll see prices for mixing varying according to how many channels you have in your song.

Here's an example of a mixing job.  If you have a song with 5 vocal channels, 1 kick, 1 bass, 1 lead guitar, 1 hi hat, that's a total of 9 channels.  We charge "per channel."  Check our pricing chart for 9 channels and you can see what we charge for each channel.  Mastering is FREE with all mixing jobs.
